Mencap is
the largest UK charity working with children and adults who have a
learning disability. Mencap Manifesto Mencap's manifesto identifies key facts about the experiences of people with a learning disability in Northern Ireland and the changes that Mencap wants to see. Click here to view the manifesto. Mencap Districts Mencap Districts bring together people interested in learning disability in their local area. There are four Districts in Northern Ireland to match each of the Health and Social Services Board areas. Each District has a District Committee, elected by Mencap members in the area. At least one third of the members of the District Committee must be people with a learning disability. District Committees usually meet four times a year. They find out about local needs and resources, and campaign on issues in their area. Northern Ireland Board Committee The Northern Ireland Board Committee guides and supports the work of Mencap in Northern Ireland. The New Bar Library building opened in April 2003. Located at 91 Chichester Street, Belfast BT1 3JQ, it adds to the traditional, smaller Bar Library housed in the Royal Courts of Justice. The Bar Library is rather more than its name suggests, for, in addition to providing traditional "library facilities" it is the working environment for over 500 barristers and must cater for all their office and ancillary requirements. Barristers find themselves working not only from the new building but also in the Royal Courts of Justice building itself, and at a number of other court houses and tribunals around Northern Ireland, as well as doing much of their preparation at home. |
